Grid Smarter Cities is delighted to announce that our Founder, Neil Herron, has received a Highways Fellowship Award at the inaugural Highways Champions Awards.
Neil collected the award at a ceremony held at the InterContinental London Park Lane on the 4th November 2026, where individuals from across the UK roads sector came together to celebrate the people making a difference across the industry.
The Highways Fellowship Award recognises sustained and exceptional contributions to the UK roads sector. Neil was one of four recipients selected from a shortlist of twelve.

As Founder of Grid Smarter Cities, Neil has been a driving force behind new approaches to managing the kerbside and making better use of road space.
His work has focused on addressing the everyday challenges faced by delivery drivers, businesses and local authorities, and on demonstrating how digital technology can help make streets safer, more efficient and better suited to the changing needs of towns and cities.
Under Neil’s leadership, Grid developed the Kerb Platform, which enables kerbside space to be digitally managed and booked in advance. By helping drivers plan where and when to stop, the platform supports more efficient deliveries while giving local authorities greater insight into how kerbside space is used.
From championing the potential of the kerbside to working with partners to bring new ideas into practice, Neil has consistently advocated for a more connected and flexible approach to managing our streets.
Neil Herron, Founder of Grid Smarter Cities, said: “Receiving the Highways Fellowship Award is a proud moment for me. What has always motivated me is seeing an idea become something that makes a practical difference to people’s lives, whether that means a safer delivery, a more reliable journey or a street that works better for its community.
“I’ve been fortunate to work with people willing to question established approaches and give new ideas a chance. Their support has helped turn ambition into real change, and I’m delighted to share this recognition with them.”
The inaugural Highways Champions Awards recognised the individuals whose dedication, skill and innovation make a difference across the UK roads sector.
Neil’s Fellowship follows his recognition at the British Parking Association Awards 2026, where he received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Everyone at Grid Smarter Cities is proud to see Neil’s contribution recognised and congratulates him on this achievement.
