Grid Smarter Cities is pleased to share that our award-winning Walworth Road project, in collaboration with Southwark Council, is featured in the September 2025 edition of Parking Review.
The article ‘Booked, Not Blocked’ explores how the innovative booking system is transforming the high street along Walworth Road – reducing congestion, increasing efficiency and improving safety at the kerbside for all kerb users.
The scheme is managed via the Kerb® Delivery booking platform with 5 bookable loading bays that can be pre-booked by mobile or desktop apps in advance. The bays are accompanied by double-sided, e-ink, smart signs which display booking information on street.

“Being able to pre-book a loading bay gives us the assurance that we will be able to unload at the most optimal time from a service and efficiency perspective. Additionally, deploying the app to the drivers’ PDA allows them to modify the booking en- route if there is a delay. Overall, our first time delivery attempt rate has increased, and the number of fixed penalty notices issued has decreased through the implementation of this system.” – James Norton – Head of Distribution Network Transformation at Warburtons
Grid’s Kerb® Delivery technology is driving forward new and innovative tech solutions that are reshaping how deliveries can be managed across cities for cleaner, safer and more efficient deliveries with Walworth Road pioneering the approach.
The Walworth Road project was also recently awarded the ‘Future of Parking’ award at the 2025 British Parking Awards.
How to Start Using the Bays
The bays are live and bookable by delivery operators in the area who register in advance. There are no charges to use the bays and bookings can be made throughout 24 hours of the day. - One bespoke parking bay sized to meet the length and width requirements of a HGV freight vehicle is available on the North side of the road (to enable servicing to the nearby supermarket)
