Grid Smarter Cities is proud to be shortlisted for the British Parking Awards in the ‘Parking Partnerships’ and ‘Parking Technology’ Award Categories for our groundbreaking, first-of-its-kind project on Walworth Road in collaboration with Southwark Council.
This follows further shortlisted entries earlier in the week for the Logistics UK Awards in the ‘Last Mile Delivery Business of the Year’ and ‘Decarbonisation Initiative of the Year’ Award categories.
The Walworth Road project is transforming urban logistics through its pioneering and innovative approach to kerbside management, helping cities reduce congestion and improve efficiency via Grid’s booking platform, Kerb® Delivery.
The Kerb® Delivery booking platform is a new technology for freight vehicles that enables drivers, operators and businesses to book loading and unloading space (both on desktop and app) in advance, reducing the inefficiency and environmental damage associated with searching for suitable places to stop.
Once registered, approved users can download a driver app to make and manage bookings. A web-based platform supports fleet operations staff to manage logistics movements within five loading bays (with a HGV-specific bay to facilitate larger deliveries) across both sides of Walworth Road alongside four dynamic, double-sided, e-ink smart signs providing real-time visibility of bay availability and usage.

By enhancing kerbside access, streamlining deliveries and reducing congestion during peak hours on Walworth Road, Kerb Delivery has:
- Improved safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians
- Reduced congestion and emissions
- Improved operations and compliance
- Minimised failed deliveries
- Saved money on fuel costs and PCNs
“We are proud to see our Walworth Road project shortlisted for the Parking Partnerships and Parking Technology categories in this year’s British Parking Awards. Walworth Road is redefining how kerb space can be utilised in a high street context, to its maximum potential, paving the way for smarter, safer and more sustainable cities. It’s exciting to see what’s possible when technology and innovation can meet the needs of the community and work hand-in-hand to drive change in our cities, a blueprint to help transform every high street.” – Neil Herron, CEO & Founder of Grid Smarter Cities
