Grid Smarter Cities has joined forces with the Brewery Logistics Group (BLG) to support the new Safe Stops Campaign, launched following the publication of the BLG White Paper last year. The campaign aims to improve pub delivery safety, kerbside compliance, and urban logistics efficiency across the UK.
Every day, brewery delivery vehicles are required to unload in locations where no safe or legal loading provision exists, creating risks for drivers, pedestrians, and other road users. The BLG Safe Stops Campaign addresses this challenge by identifying, mapping, and prioritising unsafe or inefficient pub delivery locations nationwide.
Building on the insights from the BLG White Paper, the campaign highlights how conflicting local authority regulations and Health & Safety requirements often force drivers into non-compliant and hazardous loading practices. By using shared industry data, the initiative seeks to support councils in delivering safer, more effective kerbside solutions.

John Crosk, Chairman of the Brewery Logistics Group, commented:
“This campaign is about making every delivery safe, legal, and efficient. Our members know the streets better than anyone — they can help councils identify where danger and non-compliance occur, and how digital tools can fix it.”
Developed in partnership with Grid Smarter Cities, the Safe Stops Campaign introduces a data-driven approach to improving safety and compliance in brewery logistics. Evidence submitted by operators will be visualised via a digital map, highlighting high-risk delivery locations and enabling collaboration with local authorities.
A key outcome of the campaign is the deployment of Virtual Loading Bays (VLBs) — flexible, digital kerbside solutions that provide legal, time-bound access to loading space without permanent street infrastructure changes.
Safe Stops Campaign Objectives
- Protect driver welfare and support safer streets
- Identify unsafe or inefficient pub delivery locations
- Create a shared national data set of priority delivery sites
- Enable collaboration with local councils to deploy Virtual Loading Bays (VLBs)
- Improve Health & Safety, ESG, and regulatory compliance
- Reduce Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) and improve delivery reliability
Neil Herron, CEO and Founder of Grid Smarter Cities, said:
“We welcome the Brewery Logistics Group’s leadership in addressing safer and more sustainable urban delivery access. By using technology to identify problem locations and demonstrate how Virtual Loading Bays can offer practical solutions, we can support safer streets for everyone.”
Join the Safe Stops Campaign and help identify unsafe or inefficient pub delivery locations. Together, we can support safer streets, compliant kerbside access, and better outcomes for drivers, councils, and communities.
Safer Stops. Safer Deliveries. Safer Streets.
